Companies are expected to increase IT hiring in 2018, which is excellent news for your tech team. Not only will you benefit from some new technical skills — as well as some new perspectives on issues — but your IT department will get the extra talent needed to take on any additional responsibilities that could be brewing.

Finding the right candidates to fill the open positions you have with your tech team can prove challenging, however, as you sort through resumes for the right fit. Traits such as a willingness to learn and a real curiosity about the industry should be valued, as should candidates’ abilities to work in a team, as well as their ability to adapt to technological changes as they occur.

To help you find the right candidate, eight members of Forbes Technology Council share some of the key characteristics that tech executives should look for when scaling their team. Here’s what they said:

1. Adaptability To Technological Changes

Adaptability is one of the key traits we look for in technology talent. With the pace of technology change, the rapid pace at which we’re developing products and the opportunities we have as we internationalize, we need technology talent that can roll with the changes as needed. – Christopher Sebes, Xenial

2. Team-Playing Skills

Key hires have to be able to be team players, challenge status quo, and retrain themselves and the team. They need to look to the future, yet learn from history and its mistakes from both a cultural and a personal point of view. They need to be able to speak up and yet not brag and “walk over corpses” — empathic behavior is a key skill! – Johan Hallberg, Capgemini

3. Genuine Curiosity

We look for people who are curious. It’s curiosity that allows us to ask the right questions to get to the bottom of what the real problem is, and ensure that we are providing the right solution. It is paramount that we get to the root of the problem and not get fixated on the symptoms. Ultimately, that is the value we are bringing to our customers — a permanent solution. – Shannon Vaillancourt, RateLinx
