You are a seasoned coach — credentialed and certified. You love what you do and want to keep getting better at your craft. Fortunately, credential requirements keep you current … to a degree.
While 40 hours of continuing education every three years is helpful to stay current with research and industry trends, there are things you can do almost daily to deepen your knowledge on subjects relevant to your individual practice and stay on top of your game.
Here are six ideas to keep learning and taking care of yourself professionally:
1. Hire a coach.
Being coached is one of the best ways to continue growing as a coach. And being a client has many benefits, as you’ll be able to understand the process from a different perspective and continuously learn and sharpen your skills, all while reaping the benefits of being a mentee.
2. Join a community of practice.
A community of practice is a group of professionals with similar levels of experience (for example, PCCs) who get together at regular intervals and discuss topics relevant to professional development.
COPs enable you to interact with fellow coaches and exchange ideas on a variety of topics. They are a great way to keep current on professional resources in your area and can help you develop your practice.
