The clock is ticking. College spring breaks are over, and students are hyper-focused on end-of-semester projects, exams and graduate theses. They also need to find meaningful internships and optimal first jobs post-college.
But checking off those boxes is even harder today, and employers still feel these young adults are not career-ready.
Here are 10 ways the job search process is more complicated and complex for college students and grads this year, along with some tips on how to address these issues:
Data-Driven Talent Acquisition
Companies are using data and workplace intelligence to help evaluate applicants: the first step to select those who are even qualified to consider. Some software uses predictive analytics to create algorithms to target a candidate’s qualifications, reducing the time and cost of sifting through volumes of resumes, while others identify best fits for companies starting with a pre-interview and online assessments candidates must complete. Do research to become familiar with these predictive behavior analyses.
Pre-Employment Assessments
Once they’ve initially screened applicants, companies use various tools, including AI, to further evaluate those qualified and determine the probability of success in a particular job. These include work sample tests and neuroscience games that assess culture fit and make hiring more accurate, efficient and without bias.
Take this seriously. Make sure you are in the right frame of mind and in a quiet place, as the results will impact your success.
