As entrepreneurship is becoming more popular and glamorized, more and more individuals are deciding to trade in the mundane routine of a 9 to 5 in order to pursue more fulfilling work.
I travel the world speaking to women with great ambition and aspirations, and what I’ve discovered is that many of them are still hanging on to the comfort of their day jobs while doing more passionate work as a mere hobby or small business. It pains me that so many highly creative and talented women are choosing comfort over a massive possibility. But I get it! I, too, was once in the same spot. Just recently, as a gift to myself on my 30th birthday, I decided to quit. Not only did I quit my career in law enforcement, but I quit thinking small, and I quit self-sabotage, procrastination, listening to the opinions of others about what was best for my life, winging it, complaining and settling.
I had worked in my career for four years while building my business on the side and juggling that with family. Like myself, many budding bosses question if they are truly ready for full-time entrepreneurship. While there is no cookie-cutter formula for all to follow, women not only have the right but the power to choose.
Here are five signs you’re ready to take the leap.
1. You’ve invested in your business enough to have built a solid foundation.
Now when I say “invested in your business,” I don’t simply mean you’ve spent money to get it started. The initial investment is pretty much a prerequisite. What I mean is that you’ve mapped out your vision and business plan, you’ve invested in marketing material to self-promote your company, and you’ve learned and implemented income-generating systems. All of this can be done with the help of a coach.
Remember, you are not the only moving part in your company. You can build a team (even if it’s a small one) to help reach the goals of your business and the needs of your clients.
